Assam is the first State to introduce AMRIT (Affordable Medicines and Reliable Implants Treatment) pharmacies in Northeast India. State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, ‘We have signed an MoU with HLL Lifecare Limited to provide essential drugs at 50 to 70 percent discount to people by launching AMRIT pharmacies. If these pharmacies do well, we will open one each in 27 district hospitals across the State and even extend them to 230-bedded hospitals.’
He shared ‘Many essential drugs for cancer, cardiovascular medicines and implants, which are usually costly, will now be available to patients at a little more than half its market price. People who are not receiving treatment in medical colleges can also purchase them from AMRIT pharmacies.’
AMRIT Pharmacies, which has already been opened in all the Medical Colleges of Assam, is a Central initiative to provide medicines at an affordable rate to the general public. The State Government will open AMRIT pharmacies in all the district hospitals of the State in a short time.
