Malaria

Malaria is transmitted through the bites of some mosquitoes. Sleeping under an insecticide-treated mosquito net is the best way to prevent mosquito bites.

Tuberculosis

TB is curable, test is simple, treatment is free. DOTS is the answer to TB

Immunization

  • Immunization is urgent. Every child should complete the recommended series of immunizations. Early protection is critical; the immunizations in the first year and into the second year are especially important. All parents or other caregivers should follow the advice of a trained health worker on when to complete the required immunizations.
  • It is safe to immunize a child who has a minor illness or a disability or is malnourished.
  • All pregnant women and their newborns need to be protected against tetanus. Even if a woman was immunized earlier, she needs to check with a trained health worker for advice on tetanus toxoid immunization

Safe Pregnancy

  • Seek early registration at a health institution as soon as you are pregnant.
  • Take IFA tablets regularly.
  • Visit health institution for ante-natal check-ups.
  • Find out how much weight you should gain during pregnancy.
  • Never try to lose weight during pregnancy.
  • Don't drink alcohol, smoke or use street drugs during pregnancy. It's never too late to stop or cut back.
  • Ask your health care provider before taking medications or herbal teas or supplements during pregnancy.
  • Call your health care provider right away if you have signs of preterm labor.
  • Know that women are strong and quite capable of giving birth.
  • Be aware that your birth plan may have to change to protect the baby's health.
  • Find a pediatrician for your baby before he or she is born.

Breastfeeding

Breast milk is the best food and drink for an infant for the first six months of life.

Newborns should be given to the mother to hold immediately after delivery. They should have skin to skin contact with the mother and begin breastfeeding within one hour of birth.

Every mother can breastfeed successfully. Breastfeeding the baby frequently causes production of more milk. The baby should breastfeed at least 8 times daily, day and night and on demand.

Breastfeeding helps protect babies and young children against dangerous illnesses. It also creates a special bond between mother and child.

Cancer

Some steps that you can take today to prevent cancer

  • Eat foods that boost your immune system.
  • Eat plenty of raw fruits and veggies that are deep and rich in color.
  • Stay far, far away from sugary foods.
  • Minimize your exposure to environmental toxins.
  • Exercise regularly
  • Don't smoke.

HIV/AIDS Prevention

  • Avoid unprotected sex, use condoms
  • Avoid intravenous drug use
  • For HIV/AIDS test visit the nearest ICTC

Here are some basic tips for maintaining a good health.

  • Exercise
    You don't have to belong to a gym club. Thirty minutes walk every day will to prevent weight gain and encourage moderate weight loss.
  • Eat healthy

    Reduce fat intake, cut down on sugar and opt for fruits and vegetables. This helps reduce cholesterol and blood pressure. Healthy food will also lead to better blood sugar control.

  • Reduce stress

    Not everything we want we get. We have to accept that there are things that we cannot control. Managing time is also of great importance too. We must allow ourselves enough time to get things done. Set a time during the day for relaxation.

  • Improve sleep

    Avoid caffeine, alcohol, nicotine, and other chemicals that interfere with sleep. Equip your bedroom with a comfortable mattress and pillows. Sleep in a dark clean and quiet environment.

  • Meditation

    Meditation has been linked to a variety of health benefits. It has been linked to changes in metabolism, blood pressure, brain activation, and other bodily processes.

  • Positive thinking

    People who think positively have an optimistic view of life that affects their health and well-being. Optimism has been shown to explain between 5–10% of the variation in the likelihood of developing some health conditions, notably including cardiovascular disease,stroke, depression and cancer
